mail art

a correspondence between Daniel Farrell and Richard Kegler

Between 1990 and 1996, over 200 pieces were sent.
From altered junk mail to minimally cryptic addressing, each piece has some purpose to both test the post office and also keep an artistic discourse going between its collaborators.

two examples:

a piece of polyurethane impregnated toast

a life-size paper cast of an entire human head

2. DrunkenNES

DrunkenNES is a video game controlled by
breathing into a Breathalyzer built into a modified game cartridge.

It was developed by Baltsy Adams, pictured below.

Points are awarded based upon level of intoxication
(more drunk, more score)

Also: the foundation of the game is based entirely on animal puns

This video illustrates some of the gameplay:

static?

this time: unsecured network cameras

what you have to do to find them:

1. go to Google

2. enter this exact phrase:
inurl:”ViewerFrame?Mode=” -inurl -intitle

3. take control, play around, and feel the power
of moving around a piece of technology
located from somewhere round the corner
to the other end of the world

(keep in mind that connecting may be difficult
due to limited bandwidth, though)

example:
usecured giraffe-cam
(I think this one got quite suspicious of the camera movements when I dropped by)

there is a vast number of unsecured cameras available
(mostly shops/malls, offices, schools and zoos)

not alway the most "refreshing" results...
BUT: it's the idea that counts, right?!

Have fun, kids
and remember: we're all stars on CCTV

a musical saturday/sunday:

1st: epilepsy
Cold Pumas - Jela

What immediately came to my mind when listening to this track was:
Gang Of Four picking up pace. (I could be wrong)

As well as the clip, their music contains some heavy strobing effects.
Seizure warning!

The group formed in Baltimore at the beginning of 2010 with a focus on synchronized movement, visual entertainment, and constant fluid energy transfer. Katherine has been a member of the performance group Lexie Mountain Boys since 2005 and can be seen wielding a pastry bag on the television show Ace of Cakes. Lindsay and Za mostly stay at home, studying biochemistry and eating cheese."

overkill y' all

one word: awesome!

Don't even ask me how I stumbled over this beauty of a website.
I can't remember.

This is some heavy stuff.

...and it is so much more than hilarious:
a surreal overkill of information, graphics and text.

There is so much to explore!!

two examples:

1. this character named "Sean Terrence Best"
(author and fashioner of Yvette's site and portrait painter)

[mad props for that, dude]

"derp?"

2. the MS Paint Pix gallery

Behold! It is the mythical sparkling Turd-Worm!

conclusion:

On the one hand
I assume the intention behind this is to "simply" sell some clothes
on the other hand (which seems more likely)
this looks like an art-troll having a laugh.

- anyways: great fun!

discuss

and always remember:
Yvette's cares about YOU !!
Yvette's wants YOU to be HAPPY !!

go explore!
since this is ingenious

this time: The Wow! signal

The Wow! signal was a strong narrowband radio signal
detected by Dr. Jerry R. Ehman on August 15, 1977,
while working on a SETI project
at The Big Ear radio telescope of Ohio State University.

The signal bore expected hallmarks
of potential non-terrestrial and non-solar system origin.
It lasted for a total of 72 seconds,
the full duration Big Ear observed it,
but has not been detected again.

Location on Google Sky

Much attention has been focused on it in the media
when talking about SETI results.

Amazed at how closely the signal matched the expected signature
of an interstellar signal in the antenna used,
Ehman circled the signal on the computer printout
and wrote the comment "Wow!" on its side.
This comment became the name of the signal.
